Overview
Do you love making games for hundreds of millions of players? Can you spot an accidental tangent from 100 yards? Is your sketchbook full of diverse, compelling cartoon characters? Do you excel at directing internal and external art teams, but thrill to jump in and deliver assets yourself when the team needs it? We may have the right opportunity for you.
Big Fish Games is looking for an Art Director who is passionate about making casual mobile games and excited at the opportunity to build a multi-year pipeline of new titles. This position will report directly to the Head of New Games and also work closely with the VP of Creative. We are based in Seattle and have Pacific Time core hours, but welcome full-time remote candidates.
What You'll Do
Work closely with product, marketing, insights, design and engineering to brainstorm ideas for new games and create visuals to clarify, test and further explore them.
Provide artistic vision and direction for new and existing game concepts.
Establish styles for multiple games within a portfolio, including environments and characters.
Work with art teams at 3rd party studios to help them execute against a direction that is both exciting for players and marketable.
Work with internal studios and external partners to communicate and maintain product vision.
Deliver feedback to 3rd parties on art, style, direction and theme, working with production to ensure business and project needs are met.
Create art processes (with a producer) for internal and external art production for early game development.
Work with our insight and growth teams to research the current art trends in the casual mobile game market and identify next art theme / style opportunities for new games.
Welcome early feedback, encourage team discussions, and foster an environment of safe and productive iteration.
What We're Looking For
Someone who thrives in areas of ambiguity and without much direction.
Previous experience as an Art Director.
Ability to give effective critiques and take feedback and criticism.
Ability to draw rough sketches quickly and work iteratively to create visuals.
Portfolio of work that demonstrates a high quality bar and compelling vision, and whose style is aligned with casual mobile game art themes / styles.
Solid understanding of popular casual games, their art direction, and why their choices work.
Broad knowledge and experience in several art disciplines, including concept, theme, environments, characters, lighting, and UI/UX.
Ability to articulate, present and sell art themes & styles to different audiences, including executives.
Willingness to work collaboratively and value teamwork.
Open-minded, motivating, and inspiring personality.
